North Coast Local Land Services and Richmond Landcare have joined forces as part of the community engagement and capacity-building actions of the Riverbank Vegetation Improvements project.

The aim is to empower landholders involved in riparian restoration projects, providing them with the tools and confidence needed to enhance and safeguard the health of local waterways.

Part of this collaboration included a Field Day which invited landholders and landcarers to delve into the world of rainforest restoration, creek health and biodiversity.

The event showcased an educational journey through one landholder's restoration project, intertwining a thriving ecosystem into a grazing property.

The day kicked off with a guided walk and talk led by Jesse Vandenbosch from Big Scrub Regeneration Pty. Ltd. Participants explored the transformation of camphor laurel-dominated forest back to 'Big Scrub'. They had the opportunity to discuss management options, lessons learnt and what ecological functions the forest is providing.

A panel discussion followed, featuring experts and practitioners in the field. Dr Kevin Glencross shared insights from his research on restoration and farm forestry, while Brendan Cox shed light on water testing, river health and citizen science initiatives.

Dot and Glen Moller from Boatharbour Landcare showcased successful community-driven landcare initiatives. Tom Wolff from Rous County Council offered valuable perspectives on environmental stewardship and land management practices.

Throughout the day, attendees gained invaluable knowledge on property planning, ecological restoration, habitat creation, water quality and funding opportunities.

The event promoted connections among like-minded individuals, encouraging collaboration and long-term commitment to restoration efforts.

This Riverbank Vegetation Improvements project was funded by the NSW Government under the Marine Estate Management Strategy.
